View full detailsHere at iScoot, we offer three main types of e-bikes for you to choose from, each perfect for different uses. Check out the types we offer below, as well as what they're best used for:
Electric mountain bikes are some of our most popular options thanks to their versatility and how fun they are. Take a traditional mountain bike and add a motor for pedal assistance, and you have a bike that makes travelling much easier and more enjoyable. Mountain bike trails are much easier with pedal assistance, and you'll be able to look around and enjoy the view while out and about!
All of our mountain bikes can be used with and without pedal assistance, so you're almost getting two bikes in one. You can use them on trails as well as roads, which is why these bikes are so popular. Many people find themselves using their mountain e-bikes almost every day.
Fat tyre bikes are similar to mountain bikes, but their main distinguishing characteristic is their thicker tyres. You'll often be able to choose from a range of tyre thicknesses with a minimum width of four inches. These offer better traction with the ground you're riding on and, therefore, can feel safer and easier to ride for beginners. They're also a fan favourite among advanced riders who want a bike that can handle the trickiest of terrain on super challenging trails.
Fat tyre bikes tend to be heavier than traditional mountain bikes, so riding them can be difficult for beginners. Adding the motorised pedal assist makes them much easier to use, letting everyone enjoy the benefits of fat tyre bikes as they were intended to be used!
Folding electric bikes are all the rage these days as bike sheds and storage spaces get smaller, as they let you keep your bike safe and hidden without having to waste time finding larger spaces. These bikes perform just as well as other types of electric bikes - the only difference is that they're more compact in size! Many of our customers really like that they can store their bikes inside and feel safer with their investments stored securely instead of locked up outside somewhere.
Folding electric bikes are excellent options for commuters. If you're looking for a mode of transport to make each morning that little bit easier, we highly recommend checking out our selection of foldable e-bikes.
Before jumping the gun and buying your electric bike, it's essential that you know the rules surrounding them in your local area. Here are some of the laws regarding riding an electric bike in Adelaide, South Australia:
For your e-bike to be legal on the road, it must comply with the following rules:
The primary source of movement is through human power.
The bike's maximum continuous power is 250 watts, which reduces as the speed exceeds 6 km/h and cuts off once the bike reaches 25 km/h.
You must follow the road rules for cyclists, which include wearing a helmet, having a bell and rear-facing reflector, and clear lights on the front and back of the bike that can be seen from 200 metres away.
Riders don't need a driver's license, vehicle registration, or compulsory third-party insurance.
The rules change if you're riding a bike that constitutes a motorcycle, so make sure you read up on your bike to check that it complies with Adelaide's rules and regulations. You can find more about this here.
