E-scooters which are compliant with current WA road traffic regulations can be legally ridden on paths and low speed public streets. Compliant electric scooters have a maximum power output of no more than 200 watts and they cannot travel more than 10 km/h on level ground.
Riders of electric scooters that are compliant with the relevant power output and speed regulations must also adhere to the following rules under the Road Traffic Code 2000:
Once the legal restrictions are out of the way – as with most of WA, Perth is warm the majority of the year, with cooling sea breezes in Dec–Feb. Winter (Jun–Aug) can be wet and rainy, so take care not to get your e scooter wet! Perth does have some hilly areas too, so it’s important to take that into account when you search for your perfect scooter transportation.

Currently, Western Australian laws via the motor vehicle licensing branch stipulate that electric scooters must travel at 10km/h or less, and “must not be used on footpaths and paths designed for shared use by pedestrians and bicycles.” In Western Australia any unlicensed electric scooters may only be used on private property. These rules apply to petrol and electrical powered scooters and mini motorcycles.
