So you’d like to ride an electric scooter in Adelaide?
We love our scooters! iScoot has an excellent range to choose from, and we can help you choose the best scooter to match your needs. Whether you’re looking to improve your daily commuting times or experience, wanting the most powerful scooter on the market, or would like to enjoy more of this beautiful city – there’s a scooter for you.
Before you start adding scooter products to your shopping cart, there’s some things you should know first. We’ve prepared a summary for you to start with, but it’s important to make yourself aware of all the issues.
Please make sure you read the relevant legal restrictions, as an e scooter is a little different to other transport such as e bikes, or bicycles and skateboards. Adelaide and South Australia on the whole is particularly conservative regarding e scooter laws currently, leaving private property the best place for riding e scooters. Foot scooters are a great travel option, however, and are generally allowable throughout South Australia.
Two separate e scooter trials are ongoing – Adelaide & North Adelaide, and along the Coast Park Trail and we look forward to a successful outcome. Outside of these areas, electric scooters may only be used on private property only. The scooter trial area centres on Adelaide, with the City of Charles Sturt, City of West Torrens, and Port Adelaide taking part in a separate trial area.
A wheeled recreational device that is not fitted with a motor and is propelled solely by human power or gravity can be used on footpaths, bike/pedestrian tracks, parks and in some circumstances on roads. Foot scooters are awesome fun, and great physical activity for all ages – contact our customer service team for a scooter that’s right for you.
Adelaide has warm, sunny weather for most of the year, making it a great place to be out and about. SA has an extensive variety of bicycle tracks, which are great for foot scooters (and hopefully, e scooters once the trial is completed!) You can access a map of popular tracks here and the South Australian Government has even published blog articles on popular trails.
With so many beautiful wine regions to choose from, you’ll never be short of a picture-perfect winery or vineyard to check out.

The rules differ across the States of Australia, so please check with your local State road traffic authority to be certain of the local laws for details regarding:
In South Australia, it is normally illegal to ride an e scooter on the road, footpath, bicycle track, or anywhere other than private property. Under South Australian law, electric scooters are considered motor vehicles, with the relevant SA Transport law explaining “operating a motor vehicle requires a driver’s licence, registration and compulsory third party insurance.
As these devices [electric scooters] do not meet the safety standards under the Australian Design Rules they are not eligible for registration.” So Private Property only is the best place to for riding e scooters, particularly within Adelaide.
Adelaide and North Adelaide e scooter trial
The SA Government has recently announced an e scooter trial, available in Adelaide and North Adelaide. We know we’re not the only people to eagerly await the outcome of the trial, and look forward to subsequent changes to legislation regarding scooters in South Australia.
E scooter trial along the Coast Park Trail
Electric scooters are also being trialled along the Coast Park trail, and several local Government councils are participating. Port Adelaide Enfield, City of Charles Sturt and, City of West Torrens. More information can be found on their websites.
Our scooters are protected by warranty – This Limited Warranty covers all defects in material and workmanship of the electric scooter arising or occurring as a result of your normal and ordinary use of your personal mobile device. Please read the full warranty details here.
