So you’d like to ride an electric scooter in Melbourne?
We love our scooters! iScoot has an excellent range to choose from, and we can help you choose the best scooter to match your needs. Whether you’re looking to improve your daily commuting times or experience, wanting the most powerful scooter on the market, or would like to enjoy more of this beautiful city – there’s a scooter for you.
Before you start adding scooter products to your shopping cart, there’s some things you should know first. We’ve prepared a summary for you to start with, but it’s important to make yourself aware of all the issues.
Yes – with certain restrictions. For an electric scooter to be ridden legally around Melbourne, it must not have a motor power output over 200 watts, and you may not exceed a top speed of 10kph. We have a selection of e scooters that fit these requirements, so please ask our customer service team if you need help.
Aside from being quite chilly in winter, Melbourne is generally flat level ground with a few hills as you travel north/ east into the suburbs. We suggest some good thermal clothing to keep you warm while you’re scooting, particularly for those early morning commuters. Given Melbourne is also prone to sudden onset cold, wet and windy days some protective clothing is a good investment. Speaking of rain, most e scooters hate water – so it’s important to think about how you plan to ride, and whether you might need to take your scooter onto public transport at any stage.
Please make sure you read and understand the relevant legal restrictions, as an e scooter is a little different to other transport such as e bikes.
FREE SHIPPING to Melbourne for all iScoot orders priced over $199*
Remember we have specialist electric scooter mechanics so if your e scooter needs a service, repair, or requires maintenance book a service here.
We stock a wide range of safety products on our online store, and these can all be shipped to your location around Melbourne and Victoria – helmets, extra lighting, brake pads, extra battery.
The rules differ across the States of Australia, so please check with your local State road traffic authority to be certain of the local laws for details regarding:
Victorian law stipulates that a motorised scooter cannot travel faster than 10km/h. Additionally, a motorised scooter must have a maximum power output of 200 watts or less. Electric scooters that do not meet these stipulations can be used on private property, but not in public.
If an electric scooter fails to meet these requirements, it is classified as a motor vehicle. If classified as a motor vehicle, the electric scooter must be registered, and the rider must have a valid motorcycle license. Please see VicRoads details here.
Our scooters are protected by warranty – This Limited Warranty covers all defects in material and workmanship of the electric scooter arising or occurring as a result of your normal and ordinary use of your personal mobile device. Please read the full warranty details here.
